Get to Know the Speakers

Dr. Nick Courtright

Dr. Nick Courtright is the Founder and CEO of Atmosphere Press, guiding the company’s vision to provide authors with meaningful and rewarding publishing experiences.

An author of four books, including The Forgotten World and In Perfect Silence at the Stars, Nick’s work has appeared in The Harvard Review, The Southern Review, SPIN Magazine, and over 100 other publications. He holds a PhD in Literature, an MFA in Creative Writing, and a BSS in Written Expression, and has taught literature, writing, and philosophy.

Megan Sells

Megan Sells holds an M.F.A. in Acting and Directing from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Before joining the publishing world, they spent years developing new plays with theatre companies such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. That background informs their uniquely embodied, character-driven approach to editing.

They have edited over two dozen books across genres including speculative fiction, YA/MG, and memoirs. Megan is also a featured speaker at Writing Day Workshops, The Fiction Lab, and other workshops focused on narrative technique.

Amy Kelly

Amy Kelly is a fixture in the North Texas literary scene and a passionate advocate for authors. Through Lone Star Literary Life, she helps writers expand their reach through marketing, media opportunities, and practical education on building an author platform. Amy hosted the In the Middle of It podcast and co-hosted the Time to Write podcast, giving her firsthand experience in how compelling stories move from a simple pitch email to conversations on the air. 

Amy lives in Frisco, Texas, with her husband and occasionally her two college-aged children.

Claire Denson

Claire is the editor of Atmo, a literary journal launching its first issue this month. Claire has work published in The Iowa Review, DIAGRAM, Prairie Schooner, and other such journals. She works with Atmosphere Press as the Book Publication Manager and with the National Book Foundation as a Teaching Artist in Brooklyn, NY. You can find her writing online at clairedenson.com.

Madeline McKay

Madeline McKay is the Audiobook Production and Author Relations Specialist at Atmosphere Press, managing audiobook projects from start to finish and consulting authors on bringing their books to life in audio format. Her goal is for every author to experience their story as an audiobook.

She holds a B.A. in Writing for Film and Television from Biola University and has several years of experience in multimedia storytelling, creative writing, and production across higher education and film. As a writer and audiobook enthusiast, Madeline offers a unique perspective to authors navigating the audiobook process.

Natalie Musgrave Dossett

Natalie Musgrave Dossett, an award-winning author, grew up in San Antonio. A seventh-generation Texan, she spent much of her youth on family ranches in the Wild Horse Desert.

Natalie’s love of history and passion for writing were nurtured by inspiring high school teachers and further strengthened while earning a B.A. in History at Vanderbilt University.

Her first novel, SARITA, has earned numerous accolades, including the Women Writing the West 2025 WILLA Literary Award for Historical Fiction, finalist recognition from the Western Writers of America Spur Award for Historical Western Novel, and the Grand Prize of the Laramie Book Award for Americana Historical Fiction.

Natalie lives in Dallas with her husband and enjoys a large, growing family.

 

Alison McBain

Alison McBain enjoys writing in all genres. Her work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, shortlisted for the Alpine Fellowship, and a finalist for Best of the Net in 2025. When not writing for herself, she’s a ghostwriter who has penned over two dozen books for clients, as well as an award-winning editor who has worked with both celebrity and NY Times-bestselling authors.

In 2024, she pursued a project called “Author Versus AI,” where she wrote a book a week using NO AI at all (34 books total). She's been an author guest on multiple shows internationally, including CBS radio, CBC, CTV, City News, Talk Radio Europe, and more.

When not writing, Ms. McBain is the associate editor for the magazine ScribesMICRO, a member of the Review Board of Bewildering Stories, and draws all over the walls of her house with the enthusiastic help of her kids.

James Blakely

James Blakey has published fifty short stories across a variety of genres and is a three-time finalist for the Short Mystery Fiction Society's Derringer Award, winning in 2019 for his story "THE BICYCLE THIEF."  His debut novel SUPERSTITION, a paranormal thriller, was released by City Owl Press in 2024.

He has published two short story collections: The CAT WHO LOVED DAVID DUCHOVNY and FAST TIMES AT SPIRO AGNEW HIGH. James is also the co-editor of the speculative anthologies CHARLOTTESVILLE FANTASTIC: ARCANE ECHOES FROM VIRGINIA'S HEARTLAND and SHENANDOAH FANTASTIC: MYSTIC WHISPERS FROM THE VALLEY'S VALES.

As an active member of the writing community, he leads three critique groups in Central Virginia. He resides in Broadway, Virginia.

Tal Renfro

Tal Renfro is an acquisitions editor at Atmosphere Press, helping authors navigate the publishing process and bring their visions to life.

A freelance artist with a background in film and television, Tal has painted murals, designed beer labels, created album covers, and writes and illustrates comic books. He is currently working on the next volume of his children’s graphic novel series, The Swashbuckling Adventures of Captain Kitty.

Originally from Seattle, Tal lives in Western Michigan with his wife and 7-year-old son. He enjoys movies, games, reading, snowboarding, making art, and goofing off.


Selena Carter

Selena Carter is the Virtual Events Manager who brings authors’ stories to life through engaging, seamless online experiences. An actress, media personality, and producer, she combines on-camera presence, production expertise, and a people-first approach to create memorable events.

Known for her organization, charisma, and creative precision, Selena thrives on connecting with people and infusing every event with energy, joy, and intentionality.
